The Fourth Monkey, by J.D. Barker - ★★★★★ - 5 stars

I’ve been reading thrillers and horror novels since I was ten years old. I found J.D. Barker through a friend that recommended his novel “Forsaken” and have been hooked on his writing ever since. His writing style is reminiscent of Steven King and Dean Koontz, two of my favorite authors. I’m adding Barker to my list of must-read novelists.

The Fourth Monkey is a dark, gripping story that revolves around detective porter and his hunt for the Fourth Monkey killer’s last victim—or is it? Porter has been given a unique opportunity to possibly save the life of the 4MK’s latest victim, Emory Connors.

The story weaves you through three different timelines; the 4MK’s shocking past, Detective Porters hunt for the victim and Emory’s fight to survive. The story does get a bit graphic in places, but being a lover of a good thriller novel, that only added to the tension of the story.

Barker is great at throwing twist, turns and several interesting backstories into his plot. Usually the backstory in novels leaves me feeling bored and wishing the author would just get on with it. Not so with The Fourth Monkey. The novel kept me turning pages and wondering about the outcome, until the very end. It is rare when I find a novel from a new(er) author, that grabs me and pulls me this deep into the lives of his characters.

The publication Date is scheduled for June 27, 2017. I highly recommend reading this chilling and fast-paced novel.

J.D. Barker is holding a CONTEST, starting with the release of the novel. Check it out and don't forget to Tweet #4MK

J.D. Barker will be appearing at Confluence, August 4-6, 2017 as one of the guest authors.
I’m looking forward to meeting J.D. in person.
